Contracts for Designers | Running A Small Business

Written by: Eileen Lonergan

Due to this week being National Small Business Week and my participation in the Premium WordPress Theme + Coaching Giveaway I have been spending a lot of time “out there” looking at what is going on with small businesses in general. Through my surfing I came across this free e-book, Contracts for Designers Who Hate Contracts.  It was written by Ross Kimbarovsky for CrowdSpring.com and he addresses the issues of contracts for freelancers and Work-for-hire.

I think there are many entrepreneurs (the line forms behind me) who love their business but not necessarily the running of the business. This is actually why having contracts can make your life easier. It sets expectations for what the client can expect from you, and helps you keep yourself on a schedule. It also is the check and balance between the most important element of staying in business: getting paid.

You will find the contract that Ross provides pretty complete, modify it to suit your needs.  I am curious, do you ask clients to sign a contract?  Ever had to pull it out?
