Getting People to Follow your Blog

eileen 23rd April 2010

rss feedThree times this week I  have been asked “how do I get people to follow my blog”?  Answer, lots of ways, but for the sake of time let’s start here – make sure you have the infrastructure set up for people to get your feed easily.  If you haven’t yet, go to FeedBurner and follow the very simple steps of entering your blog url and getting a feed in place.  This will enable your followers to choose if they would like your blog delivered to their inbox or sent to a feed reader.

1.  People are then able to look for the universal RSS icon on the blog they wish to follow, on my website it is located in the address bar.

When you put the mouse over the little orange symbol, you will see “subscribe to this page”, click on the icon and you will be asked how you would like to subscribe the to blog.

2.  Add a subscription box on your blog.  Again, on FeedBurner.com, under the Publicize tab, you will see an option (look on the left nav bar) Email Subscriptions.  You will be given a piece of code which you then insert into a visible spot on your blog.

3.  Don’t forget to add the url of your blog or a subscription box into your email signature (visit my previous post on Marketing in Your Email Signature).

If this is unclear, or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me in the comments blow, via email or 508-317-3755.
