Getting Search Engines To Find Your Blog

eileen 2nd May 2010

It isn’t enough to just write a great story and hit publish on your blog and then sit back and wait for the mobs to arrive and recognize your genius.

Imagine you had planned a fantastic party, you found a really hot spot for the event, booked a trendy caterer, hired an excellent band and developed a signature drink – all the elements for a good time.  Then because you are too busy with the planning or think the gig is going to be so great, you don’t bother with invitations.   If you are lucky maybe a few random people will show up.

Each time you write a piece for your blog you mull over content, find images, links, reliable references and proof read, all time consuming and important.   If you don’t spend a few minutes with the “back end” of your post (the part the search engines “see” then they won’t find your post, and neither will many readers.

In order to get the cool crowd at your party (Google, Yahoo! Bing and YouTube):

  • Give your post a Custom Title Tag: Eileen Lonergan – Web Designer – Blogger (each blog post should have a custom title – no repeats).
  • Then give it an accurate, compelling description for the meta tag and select as many appropriate keywords as possible.
  • Think of the tags and categories as fodder for the invitation – wow, she is serving the Pickle Back (I Googled trendy drinks for that one) or Jamie Oliver is cooking!
