Seth Godin Recap
eileen 18th June 2010

Yesterday my friend Chris Donley, developer of the incredible Message Sherpa, and I went to Boston to hear Seth Godin speak. I took notes on my iPad (I will stop working that into every conversation very soon, I promise).
Here is a brief list of my notes:
- Ideas that spread win
- People like to do what other people like to do
- The success of his ebook (he gave it away free online and ended up making a boat load of $ from it!)
- If everyone knows your idea everyone wins
- There is a lot of businesses who succeeded by making average stuff for avg people (Dunkin Donuts)
- Avg stuff for avg people doesn’t work any more
- Conversation business (the internet)
- Tribes share vocal point of view and want to stay together
- Keep your tribe loyal
- The dip – where to migrate into the niche
- Be the best at 1 thing not competent at everything
- Some have a mentality of “do this no one will laugh at you” (the safe route – low risk – education examples)
- You don’t have to be safe
- Failure isn’t a problem in this point in time
- When at work comes as close as possible to getting fired every day
- Speak up write reports and be generous
- Someone who makes something happen is indispensable if you are someone who can make something happen you will be indispensable.
- Don’t be afraid to ship
Much of this is of course my interpretation of what he was saying, I would love to hear your feedback. If you have read any of books or follow his blog have any of these strategies worked for you? I’m curious.
